Data Architect (Remote)

WCI, Inc. is seeking a qualified Data Architect to provide leadership on data design, modeling and architecture, define data management strategies, implement best practices for data backup and recovery, recommend approaches to data analytics and identify opportunities to increase the value of data to the business stakeholders. This is a limited term, contract position.
Key Responsibilities

  • Understand the business requirements and provide recommendations to build a reliable, secure, scalable and extensible data architecture.
  • Define database objects, data access methodologies for current and future features.
  • Define vision, strategy and principles for data management. Recommend and implement best practices for data security, data backup, disaster recovery, high availability and archiving.
  • Create & implement a data migration plan to move existing datasets to the cloud.
  • Design solutions that are tolerant of regional disasters.
  • Work with the solution architect and the business stakeholders to produce data artifacts including data models, data views, data flow diagrams, non-functional data attributes, etc.
  • Recognize areas of improvement in the development /deployment lifecycle and recommend action plans.
  • Optimize the database as needed with techniques such as, but not limited to, indexing, caching, partitioning and sharing.
  • Recommend NoSQL solutions as needed.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommend approaches that will increase the business value of data.
  • Suggest approaches for data analytics.
  • Design data architecture work practices to support data quality standards and guidelines. Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years progressive experience as a Data modeler, Technical Architect, Data Lead, or closely related.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience architecting and delivering data architecture solutions across multiple enterprise architecture domains (design, technology, application, security, information, integration, and infrastructure).
  • Very high-level skills at SQL coding.
  • Experience with Data practices including data lake, data warehousing, data integration patterns (ETL, services, messaging), analytics and business intelligence.
  • Expertise in establishing Data Modeling Standards, Policies, Guidelines, and Governance.
  • Master data management experience (MDM).
  • Strong, hands-on experience delivering data solutions in the cloud – especially AWS (such as S3, Aurora, RedShift, RDS, DynamoDB, Redis etc.) or Microsoft Azure.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a data warehouse architect and have delivered solutions for data movement, data obfuscation (data masking), record retention (Deletion and Archival), data infrastructure/security, operational data stores (ODS), enterprise data warehouses, data lakes and reporting/analytics.
  • Experience with web services architecture and patterns, APIs, Messaging, etc.
  • Experience in traditional & emerging database systems /technologies.
  • Experience in big data architecture & analytics.
  • Thorough understanding of agile/SCRUM, DevSecOps, TDD, CI/CD, delivery automation.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication & presentation skills with technical /non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency with office software, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project, Visio, and SharePoint Desired Qualifications
  • AWS certification
  • Experience working with governmental agencies
  • Experience in data processing framework such as Spark and MapReduce and data streaming such as Kafka preferred
